Cabrera blasts off in debut for Tigers LAKELAND, Fla. -- Colin Kaline is the grandson of the Tigers' all-time home-run leader. On Tuesday, he played second base for Florida Southern College in its annual exhibition game against the Tigers. Standing at his position, Kaline got to follow the flight of the ball that Miguel Cabrera hit in his first at-bat in a game in a Tigers uniform. The first-inning homer cleared the 420-foot sign in dead center and appeared to hit at least 25 feet up on the black batter's-eye background. "It got out so fast," Kaline said. "You wonder how the big league players do it. You know how good they are by watching on TV, but when you are on the field, it is completely different." The switch-hitting Kaline, a freshman from Birmingham Groves, went 0-for-4. The Tigers, who used mostly minor league players after a four-run first, won, 17-4. But Kaline was smiling afterward: "This is an unbelievable experience for our team." Al Kaline hit 399 homers for the Tigers -- more than anyone who has ever played in a Detroit uniform. Cabrera is about to turn 25, and he has had three seasons of at least 33 homers for the Florida Marlins. If the Tigers can sign him to a long-term deal, and if he can keep cranking the homers, perhaps he will make a climb toward Kaline's total some day. That day is a long way away. But so is that spot on the batter's eye that he drilled Tuesday. EXTREMELY RARE FULL TICKET IN MINT CONDITION!!! You get the ticket in the photos. No Creases, Sharp Corners, Nice ticket!!!
