Edgar lifts M's past Cards
SEATTLE, March 31 -- Edgar Martinez hit a three-run homer and Carlos Guillen added a two-run shot to lead the Seattle Mariners to a 7-4 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals in the first of a two-game exhibition series at Safeco Field.  Martinez's sixth home run of the spring erased a 4-3 deficit and highlighted a four-run fourth inning.  Seattle outfielder Ichiro Suzuki, who will become the first Japanese position player in the major leagues, doubled, walked and scored two runs.  Ichiro Suzuki delighted the crowd of 19,738 when he doubled over Edmonds' head in center field in his first at bat.  The leadoff hitter scored twice.  Edgar Renteria hit a two-run homer and Mark McGwire and Jim Edmonds added solo shots for the Cardinals.  McGwire hit his home run, a 419-foot shot into Safeco's second deck in left field, to lead off the second.  Mariners starter Jamie Moyer pitched five innings and yielded all three home runs. Cardinals starter Matt Morris surrendered seven runs and nine hits in five innings.
